He deserves to have his eyes cut out, but no suspension.
The reality is the Spikes thing is probably worse. Blount was a case of emotion from being taunted after a huge defeat. Spikes little bit of evil was in a rout, and probably truer to his character. I think the Blount suspension went too far, and hope this at least gets Spikes a game and some negative publicity. |

Spikes was an outspoken Obama supporter last year. That's the only reason I know the guy until now.
Someday, kid, you'll understand. |

Whatever the "LeGarrette Blount penalty" actually means. As they may be reinstating him sometime this week.

Tressel suspended Robert Reynolds for a game for choking Jim Sorgi. Meyer is giving Spikes just half a game for this.

and since it's Vandy, I'm guessing it will be the 2nd half.

How the hell is Spikes a college player? He looks like a guy you see in movies who is 15 years into a life sentence

I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt at first and hope that he was just pushing himself up, but there is no way around how malicious this was. I'm
sure a lot of dirty stuff goes on in the pile, but if you are caught red-handed like this, there should be a stiffer penalty than a half game.
FWIW, I thought the Reynolds incident was the lowest point in my time as a Buckeye fan. |

I think if Meyer would have made it a game this wouldn't be nearly as big as it is now. Sure people would still be talking about it but now people are
talking about it and talking about the fact that Meyer and the SEC didn't punish him enough.

A.) It's Urban Meyer, Florida, and the SEC. They're dirtbags. The only reason he's getting punished as opposed to rewarded is that he got caught on
video doing it.
B.) What I've read about Blount leads me to suspect that there are a number of other, unpublicized factors involved in his suspension. He seems like a Mo Clarett looking for a place to happen....

Rob Reynolds suspension was also agreed upon by Alvarez. Had he said no way, three games at least, I bet Tressel would have suspended him three games. Me
thinks Meyer didn't consult Richt. And how the hell the SEC agrees that it's a just punishment is beyond me. For once I would like the NCAA to flex
it's nazi muscles.

Ridiculous that they are only giving him 1/2 a game, but also completely unsurprising.

Punishment shoud fit the crime. He has to play the next game without a facemask!!!

how's bout no protection down there, no cup.
What an AH, but I guess there are many things we don't see on the field. I heard all about 'baseball' pitchers n the tricks that they use...basketball, nailing the shooter in the balls, it never ends, but trying to gouge someone's eyes out??? That would be criminal in real life, what assault, maiming? Kurt Coleman shouldn't have been suspended for one whole game, this looks far worst. I don't get it. I guess you can get away alot in the sports world. It appears that way. We always forgive "celebs, upcoming superstars?" This world is so messed up IMHO. |

Spikes: 'I don't want to be a distraction'Florida linebacker Brandon Spikes made a 19-second statement to reporters in Gainesville on Wednesday night, announcing he will effectively suspend himself for the entire Vanderbilt game for his attempted eye gouge of a Georgia player. "I really don't want to be a distraction to the team," Spikes said. "I want the guys to prepare without any negative things going on. I feel like if I would play, it would be a big thing. I'm just trying to stay out of the way and just motivate the guys. I'm pretty sure Stamper's my back and my teammates really support me on this decision." Florida coach Urban Meyer said Spikes approached he and defensive coordinator Charlie Strong Tuesday night and they made a collective decision. "We support Brandon fully," Meyer said. "Alot of the negative things out there are really weighing heavy on his heart right now," Meyer said. "As a group, we decided in the best interest just for the team to not play him Sat. It's a group decision. We're doing it out of respect for our team so we can focus on trying to win our ninth game. We think it's the right thing to do." Meyer had faced some criticism for only suspending his All-American linebacker for only the first half the Vandy game. The Southeastern Conference accepted the original punishment. Spikes stuck his hand into the facemask of Georgia's Washaun Ealey during Florida 41-17 victory against the Bulldogs last week. There was no penalty called at the time, but Meyer went back and looked at the play of tape and decided to punish Spikes. Information from the Associated Press was used in this report |
