Urban Meyer allegedly stepping down as coach |
Lead | |

I thought OSU was one of the few places he would go. This had to be a tough season, but is it just taking time off until something opens up next year? Does
he have inside info on a potential opening? Very interesting...

Meyer to coach final game at Sugar Bowl
Comment Email Print Share ESPN.com news services Urban Meyer is stepping down as coach of the Florida football team, athletics director Jeremy Foley announced Saturday afternoon in a release. "I have given my heart and soul to coaching college football and mentoring young men for the last 24-plus years and I have dedicated most of my waking moments the last five years to the Gator football program," Meyer said in statement. "I have ignored my health for years, but recent developments have forced me to re-evaluate my priorities of faith and family. "After consulting with my family, Dr. Machen, Jeremy Foley and my doctors, I believe it is in my best interest to step aside and focus on my health and family. "I'm proud to be a part of the Gainesville community and the Gator Nation and I plan to remain in Gainesville and involved with the University of Florida. "I'm very appreciative for the opportunity I've had to be a part of a tremendous institution - from Dr. Machen to Jeremy Foley and the entire administrative staff at UF. I'm also very thankful for the chance to work with some of the best assistants in college football and coach some of the best college football players and watch them grow both on and off the field as people. I will cherish the relationships with them the most." Meyer will coach his last game for Florida against Cincinnati on Jan. 1 at the Sugar Bowl. |

I was just thinking how amazing it was for Spielman to be doing the game, and mixing it up so well with Griese and now he is speaking to Meyer's situation.
It doesn't sound like he has any immediate danger if the health issues are for real. Hopefully it's just something like needing a sabbatical, or
stress that can be managed and not something like ALS.

So how long do the "family and health" concerns last before he agress to a Saban-like offer somewhere?

His Dr talks to him about health AND family issues?

Cancer? It would involve both.
A huge loss for Florida. Somehow I still like Urban, even though he handed us our lunch and had Florida doing so well. I usually hate any program or coach above tOSU. Substance abuse would involve both, but I would think his job would be suffering if that were the case. Good luck to him and his family...and keeping it private. |

Gotta give Eitzel props for having the foresight to call this thread "allegedly" stepping down. How DID you know?

His doctors have educated him about options for living with ED

Who does Meyer think he is, Billy Donovan? So all it took to change his mind was a "spirited practice" with his players? I really like Urban, but
that is b.s.
