well-wishing from fans |

Most of the time when recruits turn down OSU for another school, it's common practice to still wish the kid well in his future endeavors. I agree with the
sentiment and takes some of the fanaticism out of following the sport. With that in mind I present the case of BJ Mullens. Many of the posters on scout seem
intent on wishing him well in his future plans. I have this nagging feeling that this doesn't fall within the category I described above. Most rumors
have stated that he didn't work hard at all when he was here. He clearly had the view that this was going to be a one year stop and more of a bother than
an opportunity to improve his game. As a fan of his team, is it overly bitter of me to not wish injury, but not exactly root for his success. For one, his
success will only bolster the opinion that what he did here was ok, and that this doesn't exactly send a good message for our Class of 2009 high schoolers.
I do want to preface this by saying, I do support most kids that leave. I agree with Conley's decision to go and wish him well. He also worked hard
while he was here and was a team player.

Jon Diebler says he was a great teammate, a huge Buckeye fan, and a very grounded kid. His family is extremely poor and his older siblings have all been in
Jail. He was a Buckeye, through and through, and came here for one year. He has a ton of pressure on him from a number of people. Just because he wasn't
very successful is not a reason to not root for a Buckeye to succeed.

Where are all those NBA arm chair GM's now? IMO, one attends college to prepare them for the working world. If that be basketball, so be it. He can always go back and finish his degree. |

Add to BJ verbaled so early, he was a Buckeye for a long time. Cook was a tricky one for me as all things led me to believe he was more of a "me"
guy, but I was happy when he had a good night in the NBA.
I guess no matter how they leave I never want the term "bust" associated with Buckeyes. |

Well Thad made his bed, now he has to lay in it. We all have to go with it since he's the coach. I personally don't care if they go one and done as
long as we're in the hunt for conference title every year and playing in the tournament.

I don't like it, but I don't wish them ill.

I understand the frustration, and dont like it either. We get Robbie Hummel and probably 1 or 2 other studs if we dont get Cook and Co. Having said that
though, I wouldn't trade that year for anything. Lewis at the buzzer, Conley and Cook looking great at chapel hill. Oden's block in the final four
game. All great memories.

I'm just happy I can actually watch Buckeyes in the NBA now, for a while there it was only Redd and Jimmy Jackson's 15th team.

Oden, Conley, Cook, Kufos, Mullens. In a year or two, Turner, Buford, Lighty, Thomas, Sullinger? That's a lot more than before.

OK
I wish that were to happen, but I just don't see it. What I do today is important because I am paying a day of my life for it. What I accomplish must be worthwhile because the price is high.

Both Mullens and Cook come from screwed up homes, from what I've read. For those kids, it's often about just getting that first professional paycheck.
It's almost unreasonable to expect them to resist the pressure/guilt-tripping.

Schnee7876 wrote:I don't mind if kids come into OSU even wanting to be a one and done. What I do think they owe OSU is 100% effort and commitment to the team when they get here. If the pressures for a professional paycheck are that great, I would think the European route might not be a better route esp. for big men. I probably overstated my case in the original post where I suggested 'most rumors' told a story of a lazy Mullens. I base this mainly off of a post by IndianaBuck, who tends to be a pretty good poster over on the Schott (from what little time I spend over there) where he was paraphrasing an upperclassman's view toward Mullens. At the time, no one seemed to dispute that quote. There was also a quote of Mullens' at an NBA minicamp in which he said he's got a lot of offensive skills that he didn't showcase at OSU. I guess it's left up to interpretation as to why they weren't showcased. I don't follow the college game as closely as I used to, so my thoughts may be off based. |

I don't have time to root against Cook, Conley and Koufos.
I'm too busy rooting for Oden and Conley to be stars. |
