Just a quick story -- I did invite someone to this board (overstepping my bounds, I know) that I thought would be a very good addition. He happens to be somewhat religious (really somewhat the same as tomtango) and said he had tried the board previously and was turned off by the language and the girlie pics. Fortunately, he wandered over here anyway. Unfortunately, it was in the Word Association thread and the next two responses were "bitch" and "beeyotch".

So not elitist, but the lack of censorship could cost some potential posters. I wouldn't change a thing here, just giving another perspective.

The clarificatingest way to say it is, "there are no bounds to overstep." Please invite anyone and everyone you think would like it here, and I'm sorry Eitzel's friend landed on the NSFW stuff before getting to check out the rest. I fully understand why someone coming here who doesn't want to see the NSFW stuff would be turned off immediately. It's a major reason we haven't aggressively tried to make this a bigger place or a commercial venture. Curbing our coarseness, our cussin', and our craving for titties would be taking away part of what we are, and to date we've just kinda lived with whatever sacrifices may come with that.

Rob's right that the line is sloppy. Very. If people have suggestions for changes -- or suggestions to leave things as they are -- we're always up for making improvements. Tress says we need to be working everyday on getting better.

Rusty proposed a solution very early on (and more than once) that we could have a dedicated forum for NSFW threads that is password protected. The cons are that we always seem a little forum heavy, a great number of people never venture outside TBDMBITL anyway (as evidenced by the occasional, "We have a recruiting forum??" comments and the relative lack of Grove traffic), and the concern that we'd siphon traffic away from TBDMBITL.

If people like or dislike this (or any other) proposal, please weigh in. If we did it, it might mean a little more moderating, e.g, moving potentially offending stuff to such a forum and occasionally stepping into threads that are SFW to clean up a post that wasn't. That's a level of interference we've not had before and, frankly, not a responsibility that could be undertaken lightly or easily. There would have to be some fairly clear understanding and trust between the members and the admins/mods to handle individual objections -- both to a post and to its editing -- tactfully, fairly, and without rancor.

Thoughts? Oh...if there are good posters on lesser boards (oops...that's sooo elitist of me) anyone thinks would like it here, please do invite them. If they decline, please try to find out why so we can identify our shortcomings.
